The form of the Maru light by David Trubridge is inspired by diatoms (continuing on from Navicula released in 2017) which are at the base of the entire oceanic food chain. Through photosynthesis, they liberate enough oxygen for our every second breath.
Maru is made from 60 identical components that clip together to create an elliptical form, and lit internally by low energy LED modules. The effect of shadow play on surrounding walls and ceiling is Maru’s hidden quality. The name Maru is found in both New Zealand Maori and Japanese languages, with references to the cycle of life.
Made from sustainably grown bamboo plywood. (Sourced from an FSC accredited factory)
